Stir Crazy

We've had a lot of exams and assignments these past couple of weeks and the last few days I have been cooped up in my house studying and I am starting to go stir crazy. I am like a border collie; I need my daily run to be sane, and this constant sitting the majority of the day is starting to kill me. Today, I just couldn't take it anymore and although I didn't want to brave the cold and run outside I had to find some kind of exercise to do. I spotted our old exercise bike in the basement that I had forgotten about, and when I say old, I mean this thing is ancient. This bike has the tiniest base so when you get on it, it is so top heavy you feel like it is going to tip over, but I was determined to get my cardio in! I pretty much felt that I looked like this. Okay, it wasn't that bad but it was close.
I did a great Tabata like workout that you should try and it's probably a lot easier on the spin bikes at the gym from this decade.

Workout:
4 sets of 4 minute workouts with a minute break in between

Set 1 (all sitting on the bike):
Set at a hard resistance level and bike hard for 20 seconds, turn the resistance down for 10 seconds and then back up for another 20 seconds, keep doing this until you hit 4 minutes

1 minute break

Set 2 (all standing):
Same sequence as above but petal standing up (20 sec hard and 10 secs easy)

1 minute break

Set 3 (all standing):
Go hard for 20 seconds on a high resistance and then just stop for 10 seconds but stay standing. This one is good because you have to use a lot of muscle to get it started again.

1 minute break

Set 4:
-Sit on bike and go hard at a high resistance for 40 seconds, turn the dial down and go easy for 20 seconds
-Stand on bike and go hard for 40 and then break for 20
-Repeat once so that you hit the 4 minute mark

-A
